Search Engine Marketing: Google extends US lead

Google has extended its lead in US search share rankings, according to a report undertaken by Nielsen Online.

The October 2008 data - ranked by total searches - found the online resource accounted for 61.2 per cent, an 8.1 per cent year-on-year rise.

Yahoo! received a 16.9 per cent share - a 12 per cent drop since the last survey - with MSN/Windows Live Search at 11.4 per cent.

In news that may be of interest to search engine optimisation businesses, AOL's search received 4.3 per cent of the survey - seeing over 334 million queries.

The study revealed an estimated 4.8 billion searches were conducted using Google Search over the given time period.

In other news, Microsoft has been rumoured to be rebranding its Windows Live Search to Kumo.com, according to various reports.
